  • General Knowledge: This paper covers Elementary Science, Geography, and Current events.

2. Optional Subjects: The scope for these papers is generally at the bachelor’s degree level. Candidates select one of the following:

  • Botany: A comprehensive syllabus covering Microbes and Microbiology, Algae, Fungi, Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Cell Structure, Chromosome structure, Genome organization, Angiosperm origin, Plant Physiology, Biotechnology, and Ecology.
  • Silviculture: Focuses on the Principles of Silviculture (forestry definitions, site factors, tree growth), Practices of Silviculture (regeneration, plantation, tending, thinning), Silvicultural Systems (clear felling, shelterwood, coppice systems), and the specific silviculture of Softwoods and various Indian trees like Cedrus deodara, Acacia, and Eucalyptus.
  • Field Crops: Covers the economic importance, soil requirements, and cultivation practices for Cereals, Millets, and Pulses (rice, wheat, maize); Oil seeds and Commercial crops (groundnut, saffron, zeera, potato); and Forages and Grasses.
